Business Intelligence Center site template missing: SharePoint 2010

After spending allot of time understanding the Performance Point Service and its functions as per the links given in my previous article, I thought of giving it a try by creating a new Business Intelligence Center site for myself.

When I tried to create a new BIC Site, I found no template with such name in create site option.
No big surpriseJ, I got to know, this is something with in the SharePoint as nothing comes up all in one package with SharePoint. You have to ask for it to SharePoint or else you should know where it is available.

Below is the list of features, which needs to be enabled at the site and site collection level to have Business Intelligence Center Template available in the list of site templates.

·         Site Settings | Site Actions | Site Collection Administration | Site Collection Features | Activate SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure
·         Site Settings | Site Actions | Site Collection Administration | Site Collection Features | Activate PerformancePoint Services Site collection features

·         Site Settings | Site Actions | Site Collection Administration | Site Collection Features | Activate PerformancePoint Services Site Features

PerformancePoint Service and Dashboard in SharePoint 2010

Today, my client had asked if I had ever used the Performance Point Services in SharePoint 2010. The answer was ‘NO’ since we have recently migrated to SharePoint 2010. However, I had heard of allot of its use being it’s very dynamic in nature, so though of studying on it.

Below are the some of the references on Performance Point Designer from MS.

MOSS 2007 workflows no longer available/Visible when we upgrade from 2007 to 2010(Database Attach method)

Issue: After upgrade to SharePoint 2010, we are unable to use the workflow tool (Collect Feedback) on the CRS US Sub-Region SharePoint sites.

No OOB workflows are available in the any document libraries.

Troubleshooting done:

Checked that the all the workflow features are active on the Site collection level including SharePoint 2007 workflows.

Checked on the site collection workflow settings that all the workflows are in ‘Active’ state.

Checked by pointing to the old WFE’s workflow are existing on the SharePoint 2007 sites and are associated with the document libraries.

Activation could not be completed because the InfoPath Forms Services support feature is not present-SharePoint 2010

I was trying to publish the InfoPath form by using the browser enabled functionality but as soon as i clicked on published then I got the following error message:

Activation could not be completed because the InfoPath Forms Services support feature is not present. -OR-
There has been error while loading the form.

I worked on such similar issue in the past but that belongs to SharePoint 2007 version so I am pretty much sure that there should be some correlation with the same resolution.
You must be thinking as which resolution I am talking about. Don’t think and stress out, refer the following details:

Finally I dig into the 14-features folder on the servers and found out the exact feature i.e. IPFSSiteFeatures

I have resolved this issue without much headache/stress and resolution too is very simple:

Disable-SPFeature "IPFSSiteFeatures" -URL "http://yoursitecollectionURL"

Enable-SPFeature "IPFSSiteFeatures" -URL "http://yoursitecollectionURL"

Unable to “Edit series” for a repeating event in sharepoint calendar list

Issue:
Unable to “Edit series” for a repeating event in sharepoint calendar list

Problem Description:
There is a repeating event (event series) in sharepoint calendar list with “All day event” selected and no specific start and end time.

When someone opens an event and then clicks on "Edit series", it opens up the series in edit mode. But after making any type of changes, page can’t be saved and clicking “Ok” returns to same edit page reflecting some validation errors which doesn't allow us to commit the changes.

Workaround\Resolution:
Solution for this problem issue is extremely simple very unobvious.

Whether we make changes to the series or not, we must uncheck the box for“All day event” and then select the check box again

Folder child count and Item Child Count in SharePoint 2010

I had a very different requirement from one of my client where he asked me if we there is any feature in SharePoint where we can count how any numbers of folders/ items each folder have.

I know this was possible using SP.ItemCount class using some C# code in SharePoint 2007. However was looking something out of box in SharePoint.

While looking at this, I came to know that there two new columns introduced in SharePoint 2010 named Folder child count and Item Child Count.

Item Child Count – This column when added to the view will display the number of items\files in a folder (only if the item is a folder else it displays zero). The count does not include any sub-folders or items in those sub-folders.

This column can be added by modifying the default (or whatever) views your using and selecting “Item Child Count” from the columns list.

Folder child count - This column when added to the view will display the number of subfolders in a folder (only if the current item is a folder else it displays zero). This column can be added by modifying the default (or whatever) view your using and selecting “Folder child count” from the columns list.

SharePoint 2010: Clicking the icon in Type column is highlighting the item instead of launching the document

Issue: One of my users reported that whenever they click on the document type in the Document library webpart to opne documents, they can’t seem to open the document.

Troubleshooting:

Tried to change the hierarchy on the webpart to display documents in different order.
Tried to check the behavior by adding new webpart and display documents.
Tried to check on the behavior on the list attachments via webpart.

I was unsuccessful by trying different combinations on the site and displaying to check the behavior.

Try to check on the same issue on net (goggling) found the KB Article talks about the same issue.

Resolution: The below KB article talks about the same issue, which my client was facing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2457975.

It explains the symptoms, cause in well manner and since its resolution involves changes to be done on Production environments WFE’s. Make sure you test the solution in Staging or your development environments.

In my case my client is been asked to stick to the default behavior of the product.
