SharePoint 2010: Clicking the icon in Type column is highlighting the item instead of launching the document

Issue: One of my users reported that whenever they click on the document type in the Document library webpart to opne documents, they can’t seem to open the document.

Troubleshooting:

Tried to change the hierarchy on the webpart to display documents in different order.

Tried to check the behavior by adding new webpart and display documents.

Tried to check on the behavior on the list attachments via webpart.

I was unsuccessful by trying different combinations on the site and displaying to check the behavior.  

Try to check on the same issue on net (goggling) found the KB Article talks about the same issue.

Resolution: The below KB article talks about the same issue, which my client was facing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2457975.

It explains the symptoms, cause in well manner and since its resolution involves changes to be done on Production environments WFE’s. Make sure you test the solution in Staging or your development environments.   

In my case my client is been asked to stick to the default behavior of the product.
