Issue: While
installing SharePoint 2010 on Windows 2012 I got the below error message.
SharePoint Server 2010 cannot be installed on Windows
Server 2012
Completed SharePointCanInstall: Error
Background: With the requirement of installing SharePoint 2010 in
one of the server which has was Windows 2012 Server built. When launching the
SharePoint 2010 Binaries from the network path, I bumped in the above error
message.
Troubleshooting: With being clue less, I checked on the internet if there
is something related to this and as always helpful MS, I got a KB article which
talks about the same and ‘SharePoint 2010 support for Windows Server 2012 and
Windows Server 2012’ R2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2724471.
This KB talks about more issue, you may encounter.
Resolution:
The SharePoint 2010
Binaries I was having was with SP1 and by reading the article on net it was clear
that I need the binaries with the SP2 and need to install with SharePoint 2010
SP2.
Last year July MS has
release the ISO for SharePoint 2010 with SP2: http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=39646
and installing the binaries does work for me.
However, there are some
other solutions of this, where some customers doesn’t want to install SP2 for SharePoint
but does want to have SharePoint 2010 Installed on Windows server 2012, can
refer to the below article:
http://manojviduranga.wordpress.com/2013/03/29/sharepoint-2010-compatibility-with-windows-server-2012,
but this is not supported by MS. Just a workaround.
